What is TMJ/TMD?
TMJ stands for “Temporomandibular Joint,” the joint that links our upper and lower jaws together and allows them to hinge open and closed. Many people use the term “TMJ” colloquially to discuss pain or issues with the joint, but the real term is “TMD” – Temporomandibular Joint Disorder.
If you have TMD, or chronic TMJ discomfort, it can make chewing uncomfortable and cause radiating headaches. Of course, the symptoms and severity of TMD can vary from person to person, so diagnosing and treating it is best left to professionals.
